Hollywood Actors Agree Tentative Deal After 4-Month Strike

The SAG-AFTRA union representing Hollywood actors and the Alliance of Motion Picture and TV Producers (AMPTP) voted unanimously for a deal, ending the actors’ strike.

After striking for 4-months for measures including protection against invasive AI and better pay, actors celebrated the win.

The actors’ union said, “The tentative deal will go to the SAG-AFTRA National Board on Friday, 10 November, 2023, for review and consideration. Further details will be released following that meeting.”

SAG-AFTRA president and actress Fran Drescher posted, “We did it!!!!” She also thanked actors “for hanging in and holding out for this historic deal!”

The union told its members the deal would provide “above-pattern” monetary increases. They also stated that there was “unprecedented” safeguarding for members against AI’s threats.

The organization commented, “In a contract valued at over one billion dollars, we have achieved a deal of extraordinary scope that includes ‘above-pattern’ minimum compensation increases, unprecedented provisions for consent and compensation that will protect members from the threat of AI, and for the first time establishes a streaming participation bonus.”

As well as better pay and AI regulations, the deal reportedly raised actors’ Pension and Health caps. It also stated there would be better arrangements in acting contracts for diverse communities.

Actors Applauded Deal

The actors Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White celebrated the news when they found out at The Iron Claw premier. The union made special allowances for actors to attend the event. On the red carpet, an interviewer told the news to Allen-White, who said, “That’s amazing!”

Other stars added their voices to the celebration on social media.

On Instagram stories, Florence Pugh praised the union and strikers “win,” saying “unbelievable work from everyone involved.” And Game of Thrones actor Sophie Turner reposted SAG-AFTRA’S original statement. Other actors celebrating the deal on social media included Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, and Quinta Brunson.
