A man, who was said to be “suicidal”, was shot by police at his home in Weston Green, Dagenham, East London, on Thursday evening.
The Metropolitan Police received a call from what they believed was a 40-year-old man who planned to take his own life.
The man also informed the officers he had loaded firearms.
They attended the scene with a specialist negotiator to engage with the man. However, around 9 pm shots were fired by officers.
Despite the efforts of police and paramedics to provide first aid, he was pronounced dead at 9:30 pm.
Officers searched the property and found he had a gun.
Frontline Policing Commander for North and East London, Kyle Gordon, said: “My thoughts are with the loved ones of the man who has died, with the local community in Dagenham and the officers involved in this incident.”
“His next of Kin has been informed and will receive our full support,” he said.

They stated, “We have begun an independent investigation, and our investigators have been sent to the scene, and the police post-incident procedures to begin gathering information.”
