Evan Ellingson: My Sister’s Keeper and CSI Miami Star Dies at 35
Evan Ellingson, former child star and best-known for starring in Cameron Diaz’ My Sister’s Keeper and CSI Miami, died at age 35.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Ellingson was found dead in a Fontana sober-living home bedroom at 11:31 a.m. on 5th November.
The Sheriff’s Department reported they didn’t find any apparent foul play signs. And they haven’t yet detailed the cause of death.
Ellingson stepped back from appearing on-screen after 2010, having built up a Hollywood career from 1995 onwards.
As a child, he appeared in TV commercials, including one for the shoe company Vans.
Then, at 7 years old, he appeared in the comedy sketch show Mad. Following his TV show debut, Ellingson played several roles in other programs, including regularly acting in 2000 in the sitcom Titus on Fox.
He landed a starring part in Complete Savages as Kyle Savage in 2004. From 2007 to 2010, he acted as Kyle Harmon in CSI Miami.
Ellingson went on to star in his most famous role beside Cameron Diaz, Alec Baldwin, and Abigail Breslin in My Sister’s Keeper. His career continued by acting in Clint Eastwood-directed film Letters from Iwo Jima.
“He had a sweet, child-like spirit”
Ellingson’s father told TMZ that his son’s sudden death absolutely shocked his family. While Ellingson had reportedly previously struggled with substance abuse, his father said he had been doing better recently.
In a tribute reposted by his girlfriend, Kaysha Dial, Victoria Haines-Perez detailed Ellingson’s religious work and recent relapse following dental work. Haines-Perez posted, “Our family is heartbroken by the sudden passing of our beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, Evan.”
“Evan was one of the most caring individuals who loved Jesus with all his heart. He had a sweet, child-like spirit with a smile that could light up a room. He was always thinking of others and wanted to use his own struggles with addiction to help people find hope.
“Evan was three years sober and often shared his journey of recovery through speaking engagements and ministry. He was passionate about pointing individuals to resources for help and only recently relapsed after being prescribed opioids following a dental procedure.”
Ellingson leaves behind a daughter, born in 2008, Brooklynn.
